San Diego to LA Trains, Amtrak

Double-decker train, Amtrak.

Time for another temporary homecoming.

Taking the Amtrak* train from San Diego to LA Union Station to LAX to get to Los Angeles Airport.

* Amtrak: The passenger railroad corporation that operates in the continental United States, serving all states except Wyoming, South Dakota, and Alaska. Similar to KORAIL

Conclusion First, the itinerary [San Diego -> LA Union Station -> LAX] Recommended if you don't have a lot of luggage

Cost $46+9.75$ < $260 for a Korean taxi

Board at OLD TOWN STATION*, one of San Diego's train stations.

* DOWTOWN STATION is the departure point and this is closer to my house

Arrived at the station and was confused because there was no information on where to get on.

Turns out track 4 is where you get on and you have to cross the underpass to the OLD TOWN PARK side from the 1 side where you arrived.

Glad I left 30 minutes early...

It's a double-decker train, business is car 1 and the rest are coaches. Coach (35$) is crowded but business (55$)* is comfortable.

* Located in the front carriage

There are luggage racks at the entrance. I took one large suitcase, but some people take one large and one small.

The website specifies the dimensions, but honestly, they don't seem to mind if you bring two large suitcases (without sending them as separate train luggage... especially since you arrive 45 minutes before).

It's not a reserved seat, and if you're sitting down, show your Amtrak app to the ticket inspector and they'll take a QR. But you're guaranteed a seat. If it's crowded, it may be standing room only (Seat not reserved).

There is a power outlet by the window so you can charge your phone.

Wifi is free but slow, so it's better to use roaming data.

Coastal train~

I had to change trains twice at oceanside and irvine because they were repairing a landslide in the middle of the train

Usually it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, but it took 3 hours and 30 minutes because I had to transfer.

irvine transfer

Change seats to 2nd floor

They give me a snack box and water

From LA union station to LAX, you can book the Flyaway bus with the app. 9.95$ Every 30 minutes

The Flyaway bus stop

is located by the Patsaouras Transit Plaza sign (opposite the amtrak bus sign) when you get off the train and walk down the walkway

. You will also see a sign for Flyaway.

When you are loading your luggage, ask for the terminal and if it is Korean Air, you can say Terminal B.

Booking payment tip: When paying by card, you need to enter your Korean credit card company's website and enter your English address and zip code (not the actual American address) to avoid errors when booking. In particular, the zip code on your payment card must match the zip code you entered when you made the reservation. When I called the Shinhan Card call center, they were confused.

In del mar or carmel valley, solana beach station is closer and cheaper, so it is advantageous to board there (I realized it on the second ride.

) Track 2 is LA side Track 1 is downtown San Diego side.

the United States (24.6.25), which came 7 months later than scheduled,

this time from LA UNION STATION to SOLANA BEACH.

12:10 train, business class was full even though it was a weekday.

They changed the design of the snacks and snack sets they give out.
